Jamie Abbott eased to a one-shot victory over a charging Craig Lawrie who made an Eagle on the par 5 eighteenth to just come up short of his first professional victory.
Abbott compiled a solid opening round of 3 under par to sit alongside Jay Taylor, Craig Lawrie and Dale Whitnell, one shot back from Chris Selfridge who led by one at close of play.
The breeze was up at the start of the second day which would make it difficult for the players, especially on the greens with their slopes and grain.
The young fourteen-year-old Korean Professional, Hee Min Jang yes, he’s fourteen, set an early target of 5 under par, adding a blemish free 5 under par 67 to his first round of level par.
Cormac Sharvin joined Hee on 5 under after a 4 under par 68 that contained a back nine of 31 made up of 6 Birdies, an Eagle, a double bogey and a bogey!
Jamie Abbott spoiled their party with a birdie at the last to post a 7 under par total for a 2 shot lead over the expectant pair waiting in the clubhouse.
The young amateur, George Bloor, playing alongside Abbott, carded a 3 under par 69 to join Sharvin and Jang on 5 under but unfortunately as an amateur could not receive any prize money.
In the final group, it was Craig Lawrie who almost caught Abbott with a great Eagle on the last but even that was not quite enough to deny Abbott, who’s win secured his top position in the Swing 3 Order of Merit and wins him a Free season on The Jamega Pro Golf Tour for 2017.
